1950s HEALS OF LONDON DESIGN. Thanks you for looking at this rarely seen Heals of London bookcase designed by Christopher Heal.Quality teak finish with lovely tapering ebonised stubby legs. A single adjustable shelf and comes with it's original removable glass doors (see photos). Son of furniture designer Ambrose Heal, Christopher later became Design Director of the iconic family firm from 1952 and was at the forefront of the companies move towards Mid Century Modern & Scandinavian aesthetics. This range was brought out at the tail end of the British Utility Furniture movement c1949 and to give an idea of its design significance a piece from this modular range is kept in the V&A archive.
This bookcase has been in the same family from new. Measures 114cm long x 69cm high x 30cm deep. In excellent refinished condition with just very minor signs of wear commensurate with age.
Has been delicately finished by hand, the legs have been freshly ebonised and coats of Danish oil applied. Please see photos (more available on request) and feel free to ask any questions.
